Anne Morgenstern

was born in Leipzig, Germany, lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland.

Her work deals with people, their relationships to each other and to their environment. Social conventions are constantly challenged. She is interested in quiet moments, to which she attaches a central role.

In 2023 she wins the Hansel-Mieth-Prize for outstanding reportages together with Rudi Novotny (text) for “Ich will eine normale Frau sein. Einfach so”—the story of Ella. It was published in ZEIT Magazin.

Her photo book MACHT LIEBE, for which she received the Swiss Design Award 2022, has been published by Hartmann Books in February 2022. The accompanying solo-show Indocile and Tender, curated by Danaé Panchaud, has been shown at the Centre de la Photographie Genève 2022.

For her book Land ohne Mitte, she spent time with residents of Saxony, capturing the reality of their day-to-day lives and their ideas for the future: the project won her the German Photo Book Prize in 2016.

Her work has been shown in various venues including the International Center of Photography in New York and the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. Most recently at Fotomuseum Winterthur in the group exhibition Chosen Family—less alone together, curated by Nadine Wietlisbach.

Her work has been published in various print & online publications, such as AnOther Magazine, Best Fashion, BLAU Magazin, Bolero, Brand Eins, Das Magazin, Das Wetter, Der Spiegel, DU Magazin, FAZ Quarterly, Galore, Hochparterre, Konfekt, Libération, Max Joseph, Monocle, NZZ Magazin, Republik, SZ Magazin, The Financial Times, VOGUE Germany, Wallpaper, Weltkunst, ZEIT, ZEIT Magazin …
